Hi! I’m Laura!
I live with my husband and our dog in a tiny, but perfect home in Mill Valley, California that is within throwing distance of my childhood home.
Growing up I watched my dad tote around his film camera everywhere we went. He took so many photos of our family that one day, in preschool, my brother was asked to draw a photo of our family and when he didn’t draw my dad, the teacher was worried and asked him why. He replied “Dad’s taking the photo!”
My dad held onto that camera even though he made the switch to digital and when I signed up for high school film photography he said “Here, you can use my old one.”
It’s been my sidekick ever since. I have carried it across countries, hauled it countless backpacking miles (it’s my one “must have even though its so heavy” item) and it’s seen the Marin beaches probably more than it would like.
People often ask, “Why film?” I tend to think that when you see the difference you know exactly why. There is a timeless quality to the color and texture in the grain. They feel special, because they are. When something is limited, like the number of frames on a roll, each shot carries more weight. You start paying attention to everything (especially the little things) and there’s nothing quite like paying attention that slows us down and let’s us see how sweet life really is.
The goal in my sessions with you is to capture those little moments, the beauty of your love, so you can bottle up exactly how amazing it is and hold onto it forever.
